St James Anglican Church

easter sunday service

Easter Sunday ~ 12th April 2020

Welcome to our Easter Sunday Worship Service online. We may be separated by physical distance but we are God’s people together as we worship, pray, sing and reflect. We invite you to find a quiet place to be still with God and scroll through the items below. There are things to read, watch and even sing along to. Afterwards you might like to call a fellow member of St James to say hello, share news and your thoughts on this week’s service. You can call our Lead Minister Judy Douglas on 0427787115 or our Associate Minister Brett Morgan on 0403 070 008 if you have questions, problems, thoughts or news at any time.
Christ is risen, He is risen indeed!

First Reading: Acts 10:34-43

34 Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism 35 but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right. 36 You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, announcing the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. 37 You know what has happened throughout the province of Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached-- 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.
39 “We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a cross, 40 but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen. 41 He was not seen by all the people, but by witnesses whom God had already chosen—by us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. 42 He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead. 43 All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”

Almighty God,
you have conquered death through your dearly beloved Son Jesus Christ
and opened to us the gate of everlasting life: grant us by your grace to set our mind on things above,
so that by your continual help our whole life may be transformed;
through Jesus Christ our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit
in everlasting glory.
Amen.

Second Reading: Colossians 3:1-4

Picture
Living as Those Made Alive in Christ
3 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your[a] life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

Gospel Reading: Matthew 28:1-10

Jesus Has Risen
28 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.
2 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4 The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.
5 The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”
8 So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”

This Weeks Sermon

from Rev Judy Douglas
We Pray:
  • We pray that Church of God throughout the world would boldly proclaim the truth of Jesus Christ in word and action
  • We pray and look forward in hope for the peace and healing of the world.
  • We pray for those in authority, and for all who shape our common life that God would guide them in truth, justice and compassion
  • We pray the sick, the dying and for those in need, darkness or despair. May God bring hope, healing, strength and peace. Help us in the strength of Christ to seek out and care for them
Amen.
